- Independent living can be arranged through Independent Living Centers
in local communities.
The Ticket
to Work and Self-Sufficiency Program (Ticket) is a new part of the
Social Security program. It is a voluntary program for people who receive
Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) benefits and Supplemental
Security Income (SSI) benefits because of disability or blindness. The
goal of the program is to help beneficiaries obtain and maintain employment
and earn enough money so that they will not need Social Security cash
benefits. Under the Ticket Program, beneficiaries have opportunity for
greater choice in getting the services they need to go to work or to earn
more money. Beneficiaries can receive employment services, vocational
services or other services provided through Employment Networks, which
are private organizations or government agencies that have agreed to work
with Social Security. Colorado is one of thirteen pilot states in which
the Ticket program will be initially rolled out.
The Howard
Fund provides assistance to the blind, and is administered by the
DVR.
